Do you know where that's from? Did you get that reference? For those of you that don't (and if you don't...get on this), it's from "Family Guy", although I bet it's probably a reference from something else that FG stole since they do that a lot. And alas, it's episode 1 because honestly, I can foresee MANY posts like this.
The topic of today's edition is driving.
Subject 1: Cops
Seriously, one of the things I find the most annoying while driving is seeing law enforcement professionals breaking the laws they are supposed to be enforcing. Seriously, I'm talking cops doing WELL over the speed limit - I'm talking like 65,75, or 80 on I don't know, let's say Rt. 102 in Foster/Scituate where the speed limit they are supposed to be enforcing is 35-40 mph. Hmmmm....Do as I say, not as I do I guess maybe? Oh, and have you ever seen a cop run a red light - no lights on or anything? Or better yet, the flip on the lights to get through/around the light or traffic and then turning them off. Classic. It's right out of Superbad, except I saw this happen MANY times before that movie was around.
There are certain parts of my commute where I am guaranteed on a daily basis to see these examples happen. Interesting huh? Gives me something to think about next time I'm pulled over for something...although I have to admit, I've only gotten 1 ticket ever for doing 25 mph in a 20 mph zone. Seriously?! I know, you're jealous.
Subject 2: Cutting people off
Another thing that coincidentally also happened on my way home from work today - I got cut off by someone who appeared initially to be in a crazy rush/hurry since they felt the need to pull out just a few feet in front of me. I was much surprised to find that they apparently weren't in a rush when they proceeded to drive 10 mph under the speed limit. Oh yeah, it was great. You could tell the guy behind me was irate. My theory is that if you feel the need to cut me off, you damn well better at least do the speed limit. At my first chance I went the opposite way I could to get around this person since we of course had to be in a no-passing zone. I almost saw two people behind me who were going the way there were almost hit them to try and cut them off going around them at a turn...I guess I wasn't the old angry person.
And speaking of driving under the speed limit....
Subject 3: Driving under the speed limit
Nice transition there huh? I get it, really. Some people like to drive under the speed limit or conditions exist that call for it, yada yada yada, etc. I have two thoughts on this if you decide to do this and people are obviously hoping to get past you going the speed limit or higher.
A) Pull over to let those who are behind you pass you or drive in slow lanes so you can easily be passed. Did you know that your slow driving could could result in others getting in accidents? Please be courteous and let those of us who don't have a reason to go under the speed limit or the time for a leisurely drive to where ever you are heading pass you. We would be very appreciative, have less stress, not tailgate you, and likely not wish you ill-will.
B) (And this is important) - I expect if you are going below the speed limit that you will observe all other traffic laws such as staying in your own lane, signaling, etc. There's nothing worse than following a person who's driving slow and watching them weave in and out of the lane, cross lines, and/or not signal when they hopefully turn.
That's just my $.02 though. Maybe others don't agree or do agree. What do you think? I'm sure I could come up with many other topics for this one alone, but this is just what I got to experience today on my way home. What a drive!
